Was your home residence (house, apartment, garage, shed, fence) damaged? Extent of damage? Were you required to live somewhere else following the derecho due to home damage?
Yes, we needed a new roof, due to shingle damage, we also had our insulation removed and replaced.

How many days were you without electricity?

How many days were you without internet services?
9

Did you need to make a property insurance claim? If so, what was your experience with your insurance company?
Yes, one for our condo association, and one for our homeowners policy. The condo association was a big deal, over 1.6 million in claims for our buildings alone. The company has been good to work with, it is a continuing process, approximately half of our buildings are done, about half to go. The homeowners policy is not as good of an answer. The local office was not receptive on the front end, they just wanted to refer us to a national disaster desk. In the end, we wound up losing our refrigerator and freezer contents, as well as a "special assessment" of $1100 to the condo association, had to purchase a generator, for medical equipment, and nothing was covered/reimbursed.

Did you have access to enough food for your household following the derecho? Did you have the need to use local food pantries to supplement your household’s food supply?
We found access to food, mostly by driving to Independence and Waterloo for restaurants and dry groceries.

Are there any memories you would like to talk about?
It made me feel good, living in a community that came together in a difficult time, and persevered.
