Where were you during the derecho (i.e., home, work, car, place of business)?
Home--working remote out of my kitchen watching the storm take over our community and take down our homes.

Was your home residence (house, apartment, garage, shed, fence) damaged? Extent of damage? Were you required to live somewhere else following the derecho due to home damage?
My home's exterior was 100% replaced due to damage (siding, garage, windows, roof, gutters- before and after pics are revealing). My home also had interior damage due to water getting into basement from pushed in windows (currently still remodeling due to having to gut the finished side of basement).

Were you or any loved ones injured during the derecho?
Thankfully none in our family. But a dear Dance Sister was significantly hurt during clean-up efforts.

Did you need to make a property insurance claim? If so, what was your experience with your insurance company?
Yes. It was very tough at first, but then got better.

Did you have access to enough food for your household following the derecho? Did you have the need to use local food pantries to supplement your household’s food supply?
Yes. We volunteered at a pantry to help others and did accept donations for easy preparation at that time.

Did the derecho affect your employment in any way? Please describe.
With being 100% remote due to pandemic, was unable to work for 2 work weeks. Senior Leadership sits out of state so communication for coverage was very difficult at first but got better with time.

How was your mental/emotional health affected by the derecho?
Stressful. Actually, the mold formed in our basement from derecho damage caused an underlying condition of mine to flare up full force. I actually gained a diagnosis and answers I have been searching for for 9+ years. I am now in treatment for this medical condition but see the events from the derecho to be the critical piece of my puzzle allowing us to gain results- silver lining :)

What resources were helpful (in any way) after the derecho?
Marion Chamber, Food Pantry
