How was your mental/emotional health affected by the derecho?
The derecho itself was awful, but my mental and emotional health was in a good place. Our neighborhood banded together and worked together to clean up and cut up trees that were down on a daily basis. The sense of community and coming together really put me in a great place mentally. Waking up and thinking, “OK whose property are we going to work on together to help restore,” was actually very rewarding and simple. Derecho sucked, but what came out of it from that perspective was great.

Where were you during the derecho (i.e., home, work, car, place of business)?
I was at Prospect Meadows.

Was your home residence (house, apartment, garage, shed, fence) damaged? Extent of damage? Were you required to live somewhere else following the derecho due to home damage?
Yes, we've had over $300K in repairs made to date.

Did your property sustain tree damage? Extent of tree damage?
Our neighbors at the Linn County Building received tree damage. Thankfully we aren't planting our trees until later this spring.

Was your workplace/school damaged? Extent of damage?
Yes, we lost a bunch of fencing, netting, broken windows, damaged dugouts, and building damage. upwards of $300K.

How many days were you without electricity?
Both my home and Prospect Meadows were without electricity for 13 days.

How many days were you without internet services?
Over a month at home, Prospect Meadows was a couple weeks.

Did you need to make a property insurance claim? If so, what was your experience with your insurance company
Yes, our experience from a PM perspective has been good overall. We've been able to get everything replaced that needed to. From a home insurance perspective, we had to get a 2nd adjuster out to get everything we needed totaled.

Did the derecho affect your employment in any way? Please describe.
It did from the perspective that I didn't go to work for 2 weeks. I was dealing with getting my home and neighborhood cleaned up as best we could. We had to cancel a few events at Prospect Meadows due to the damage but were able to re-schedule once we got things back in order.

What resources were helpful (in any way) after the derecho?
Chainsaw dealers!

Are there any memories you would like to share?
Getting all the golf carts put away just in time, watching trees get blown over from the LC building, it taking 2 hours to get home, and the resolve of the community to work together to get things cleaned up.
