Where were you during the derecho (i.e., home, work, car, place of business)?
At home

Was your home residence (house, apartment, garage, shed, fence) damaged? Extent of damage? Were you required to live somewhere else following the derecho due to home damage?
We experienced minor damage to the buildings on our property. We were not forced to live elsewhere after the storm.

Did your property sustain tree damage? Extent of tree damage?
Yes. We lost 13 trees on our property.


Was your workplace/school damaged? Extent of damage?
No, thankfully.

How many days were you without electricity?
3-4 days


How many days were you without internet services?
7-8 days


Were you or any loved ones injured during the derecho?
No, thankfully.


Did you need to make a property insurance claim? If so, what was your experience with your insurance company?
Yes. State Farm processed our claims quickly.

Did you have access to enough food for your household following the derecho? Did you have the need to use local food pantries to supplement your household’s food supply?
Yes, we had plenty of food.


Did the derecho affect your employment in any way? Please describe.
As someone who works from home, I was unable to work full days due to the lack of internet service and spotty cell connections.

How was your mental/emotional health affected by the derecho?
I became stressed to the point of crying. I was frustrated we didn't have power and that once we got it back, we lost it again. I was worried for my friends in the area who went much longer without power.


Are you interested in participating in an oral history interview with a Marion Public Library staff member about your memories surrounding the August 10, 2020 derecho?
Yes.

Are there any memories you would like to share?
I rode out the storm on the top floor of our condo and shortly after the storm passed, I had to venture out to the stable where I keep my horses to make sure they were safe.
